International
Symposium
[Symposium on the future framework on climate change beyond
2012] |
Kyoto Protocol
is now at a stage to enter into force once ratified by Russia
and detailed rules are steadily adjusted in preparation for
its entry into force. However, the Kyoto Protocol only required
the developed countries' commitment until 2012, and the discussions
on measures beyond 2012 are to begin by the end of year 2005.
The climate change issue is undoubtedly
an important global issue that must be addressed on a long-term
basis. In order to respond to this climate change issue, we
must build an effective and sustainable framework participated
by the United States, which is the world's largest greenhouse
gas emitter, and developing countries, which are expected to
exceed the emissions of developed countries by 2020.
At this symposium, the keynote presentation
will introduce the result of discussions at the Industrial Structure
Council of The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, followed
by presentation and panel discussion by experts from developed
and developing countries. Through active discussions, we expect
to identify what factors must be prioritized for the next step
and what actions are needed for them.
It is our pleasure to inform you of this symposium, as it is
open for anyone with an interest in the subject.
