Seminar Overview
GISPRI (Global Industrial and Social Progress Research Institute) and The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) co-hosted a seminar on January 29, 2010 at the Nadao Hall, Tokyo, to report the result of COP 15 and COP/MOP 5 that took place in Copenhagen, Denmark on December 7-19 in 2010. The annual seminar, first organized after COP 4 in 1988, was held for the thirteenth time this year.
It brought together 296 attendees, including industry experts, researchers and students who shared common interests in climate change. Four ministry representatives from the Japanese delegation who negotiated vis-a-vis with foreign counterparts were invited to talk about the progress of the negotiation, decisions and future prospect. Following their presentations, a Q&A session was provided. Since the seminar addressed ongoing international climate agendas in a comprehensive and timely fashion, it was well received by participants as one put it, “I feel grateful for this opportunity to gather such detailed undocumented information at first hand.”
The Copenhagen Accord, technology transfer, LULUCF and others issues were taken up in the first half of the session, while in the latter many questions came up from the floor. Each speaker kindly responded to them in detail.
