1. The Projects to Succeed and Develop the Basic Philosophy of the EXPO 2005

Trademark Management Project

a) Brand management
GISPRI owns and controls Expo 2005-related trademarks transferred from the Japan Association for the 2005 World Exposition. GISPRI-controlled trademarks include:

  • Section 10-110, registered by Japan Patent Office
  • Three trademarks registered internationally through The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)
  • One trademark registered by Chinese Trademark Office, State Administration for Industry and Commerce (CTMO)

The forementioned registered trademarks include: all names, symbols, logos and designs of “Morizo and Kiccoro,” the official mascot characters and the Expo 2005, Aichi, Japan.

b) Licensing of trademarks
We license our trademarks and characters in accordance with the standard set by the review committee and grant licenses without charge for any applicants who wish to use them in public events with pro-bono purposes, while onerously for commercial purposes. Our license approval process is managed by the Moricoro License Center (MLC) under the operational division of the Project to Succeed and Develop the Basic Philosophy of the Expo 2005, located in Nagoya Office, GISPRI.

c) Approval of on-stage appearances of Morizo and Kiccoro
In accordance with the standard set by the review committee, we review and authorize as appropriate on-stage appearances of Morizo and Kiccoro, as part of our brand management efforts.

d) Management of official photos and video images
GISPRI controls and manages still and video images of the Expo 2005, Aichi Japan. 1,279 official photographs are published in the official photo book. In addition, a 90-minute official documentary was produced and recorded in both DVD and VHS formats and stored in Chūbu branch office of the NHK PlanNet, INC. Likewise, 1,045 high-definition video footages (20 minutes for each) recorded in HD-CAM tapes were archived in the same facility.

 

2. Aichi Expo 2005 Commemorative Project

Educational Tools Development and Publishing Project

a) Commemorative publishing
In collaboration with the Chunichi Shimbun, GISPRI published a booklet entitled “The 2005 World Exposition and its Connection to the Future: Passing on the Fundamental Ideas of the 2005 World Exposition in Aichi, Japan” to mark its fifth anniversary. The booklet was provided in Chinese and English languages, in addition to Japanese. Its initial print run was 2,500 copies in total and circulated among concerned persons and others.

b) PR video creation
GISPRI produced a video footage featuring the mascot characters of the Expo Aichi 2005 and Shanghai Expo in an attempt to disseminate the result of both expositions. The project also aims to promote cultural exchange between Japan and China as well as to increase recognition of the Shanghai Expo in Japan, as part of our effort to pass on the basic philosophy of the Expo 2005 in Shanghai Expo.

 

3. The Project to Convey the Achievement of EXPO 2005

(1) Expo 2010 Shanghai, China

Following the World Exposition 2008 Zaragoza, Spain, GISPRI decided to conduct following projects in 2010 to spread the basic philosophy of Aichi EXPO 2005 in Shanghai Expo as well and carried out preparation in close coordination with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and JETRO among others.

a) Special cooperation for Japan Pavilion
GISPRI offered a range of special cooperation for Japan Pavilion in producing exhibit space (a part of Zone 2) and implementing publicity campaign for Japan Pavilion.

b) Other events
GISPRI undertook various events on May 14-16, 2010 under the theme of “The 2005 World Exposition and its Connection to the Future” at the event space inside the Japan Pavilion in Shanghai Expo as below:

  • Musical performances of Morizo & Kiccoro
  • Heart-to-Heart Concert
  • Sino-Japanese cross-cultural student programs between Shanghai Experimental School and Shanghai Japanese School (Hongquiao Campus and Pudong Campus)
  • Civic hands-on programs

(2) Expo 2012 Yeosu, Korea

GISPRI made efforts in 2010 to collect information of Yeosu Exposition including its state of preparation, meetings for participants and other relevant information through JETRO Seoul Center. Also, it conducted preliminary survey in relation to the theme of Yeosu Expo as well as hearing of the academics and experts in the field.

(3) BIE-Related Projects

The Bureau International des Expositions(BIE)headquartered in Paris organized an Expo x Expos for the first time in Japan, for which GISPRI provided full support along with the Aichi Urban Development Association and Commemorative Organization for the Japan World Exposition ’70.

(4) Domestic Projects

a) The Exhibition of Two Great World Expositions of Aichi and Osaka and the History of the World Fairs in Japan
To mark the fourth anniversary of the Expo 2005 Aichi, GISPRI held an exhibition entitled “Aichi and Osaka, Japan’s Two Great Expos” at the Nagakute Cultural Center from July 18 until August 30, 2010, in parallel with “Expo x Expos: The Course of the World’s Fair and Its Future” in cooperation with Commemorative Organization for the Japan World Exposition ’70 and Nagakute Town.

b) Expo 2005 Memorial Gathering
GISPRI hosted a festive gathering on September 13, 2010, to express its gratitude to all the concerned people of the Expo 2005, Aichi Japan, at the Nagoya Messe, prior to its fifth anniversary event to mark the opening.

 

4. Expo 2005 Practical Application Project

(1) Expo 2005 Achievement Development Project

a) Implementation of FY 2009 Grant Program
GISPRI accepted and adopted fourteen applications for FY 2009 grant program through the review process by the Aichi Expo 2005 Achievement Development Project Review Committee..

b) Adoption of FY 2010 Grant Program
GISPRI announced on March 31, 2010 its adoption of thirteen grant programs for FY 2010 grant program through the review process by the Aichi Expo 2005 Achievement Development Project Review Committee..

(2) EXPO Eco-Money Project

As in previous year, GISPRI continued to study potential measures to diffuse the Eco-Money social system, a pilot program demonstrated at the Aichi Expo 2005 in FY2009.
