On
March 22, 2000, the 10th GISPRI Symposium "Beyond the Crisis -
Rethinking Japan's
Role in Asia -" co-sonsored by Ministry of International Trade
and Industry(MITI) and Japan
Federation of Economic Organization(KEIDANREN) was held at Keidanren
Hall with four
overseas lecturers and nine Japanese participants from academic field,
industrial sector and
Japanese government.
In
the keynote speech titled "Thinking Japan in Asia", Professor
Takashi Shiraishi of Kyoto
University addressed that Japan should contribute to Asia through econmic
cooperation,
industrial cooperation and cultural and intellectual cooperation.
In
each session, Japan's role was discussed from viewpoint of industrial
cooperations, Asian
regioanal monetary system and systemic natures of interdependence between
Japan and Asia
in 21st century.
